The Daily Mail has reported that Idina Menzel, the Tony award winning actress, has added some concert dates for the UK to her North American tour that is currently running. The Wicked and Rent veteran will be appearing in London at Apollo Theatre October 8-14. Then she will be performing at Usher Hall in Edinburgh on October 16. On October 17 Menzel will perform at Palace Theatre in Manchester. She will then resume her U.S. tour.
Menzel’s concerts will be featuring a lot of the same material that she has been performing on the current trek. The tour launched from Vancouver, BC on June 1. For the U.K. performances new material will also be added. Menzel said there would be songs from Rent and Wicked, some standards from the likes of Cole Porter as well as some Thirties medleys.
According to Menzel, her concerts will not include dancing boys, which have long been a staple of the solo shows of many divas. I won’t have dancers. It just isn’t me, the actress said. A majority of the time I will be barefoot. I am most comfortable that way while on stage. I feel the most comfortable in terms of my body and move better. Everyone from Beyonce to Liza Minnelli has dancers, Menzel said. Maybe one day I will do it. But it will need to be a spoof. To me it just doesn’t feel authentic.
