Idina Menzel Maps Dates for Spring/Summer North American Tour
She was first known onstage as Maureen Johnson from the musical ‘Rent’, then in the small screen as Shelby Corcoran, Rachel Berry’s biological mother in ‘Glee’, and last fall, she became known as the “Barefoot Diva”, hopping from one city to the next across the US, in Canada and in the UK singing show tune classics and even covering chart topping hits in barefoot backed by various symphony orchestras.
This summer, award winning performer Idina Menzel will be embarking on a North American tour which will have her treading from the west coast (Vancouver’s Center in Vancouver for Performing Arts on June 1, San Francisco on June 7th, and Las Vegas on the 10th), to the south and the Midwest (Dallas on the 13th, St. Louis on the 17th, Columbus, IN on the 23rd and Detroit on the 27th) and then the east coast via Philadelphia on June 30. More dates are to be added to the itinerary which will wrap up on October 29 at the Carnegie Hall in NYC. Tickets will go on sale starting March 3, Saturday at 10 AM.
“I am so thrilled to be going back on tour this summer,” Menzel said. “I am eager to reconnect with my audience, perform my favorite songs and explore some exciting new material.”
Menzel is a renowned Broadway actress who bagged her first Tony Award nomination thanks to her role in 1996’s ‘Rent’ as Maureen Johnson, which she reprised for the musical’s film adaptation in 2005. But it wasn’t until 2004 when she finally bagged a Tony for her performance as Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West in the critically acclaimed musical ‘Wicked’.
This spring, a CD/DVD release of her concert at Toronto’s Royal Conservatory of Music on November 17 and 18, 2011 is slated to hit the shelves on March 6. The same performance will also air on PBS on March 3.
