Jackie Burns Signs on as Elphaba on Wicked Tour
Jackie Burns of “Rock of Ages” fame has been cast as the newest addition to the North American tour of the critically acclaimed musical “Wicked”, which is based on the novel, penned by Winnie Holzman and has music and lyrics written by Stephen Schwartz. “Wicked” is a story set in the Land of Oz before Dorothy from the “Wizard of Oz” came in the picture. It backtracks the story of the Wicked Witch of the West whom Dorothy defeated in the classic tale.
Burns will be portraying the emerald skinned Wicked Witch of the West Elphaba, opposite Chandra Lee Schwartz who will be playing Glinda the good witch, when the production lands in Houston as part of the tour. Joining them are Randy Danson playing Madame Morrible and Richard Kilne playing The Wizard. The production will also be supported by over 30 other performers including Brynn O’Malley as Nessarose, Richard H. Blake as Fiyero, Tom Flynn as Dr. Dillamond, Justin Brill as Boq and Mariand Torres as a standby for the role of Elphaba.
Burns is one of the pioneering cast members of “Rock of Ages” and NYMF’s “Unlock’d” which earned several theater honors. Burns also worked in the Broadway production of “Hair” as an understudy for the part of “Sheila” and was also casted as one of the three “Black Boys” in the story.
“Wicked” will be playing at the Hobby Center in Houston, TX starting today, July 8 till the 25th.
