Mamie Parris Signs on a Elphaba in Wicked Tour
Tony Award winning musical ‘Wicked’ continues to gear up for its ongoing North American tour, and they’ll be bringing in Mamie Parris of Broadway’s ‘Ragtime’ to portray Elphaba, the emerald skinned Wicked Witch of the West starting on October 4, Tuesday, where the musical enters its final week in its month-long run at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta.
Apart from ‘Ragtime’, Parris also worked on the Broadway productions of ‘The Drowsy Chaperone’ and ‘110 In the Shade’. This won’t be her first time to go on tour as she has performed in the touring companies of ‘Legally Blonde, the Musical’ and ‘9 to 5: the Musical’.
Winner of multiple Tony Awards after its Broadway premiere in 2003, ‘Wicked’ is the fascinating adaptation of Gregory Maguire’s work of the same title, unraveling the mystifying story of the infamous Wicked Witch of the West, whose exploits include a face-off with musical theatre’s most famous small-town girl, Dorothy, from the classic tale of ‘Wizard of Oz’.
The touring production of ‘Wicked’ features music from Stephen Schwartz, adapted story from Winnie Holzman and direction from Joe Mantello. Cast includes Amanda Jane Cooper starring alongside Parris as Elphaba’s childhood friend and eventual rival witch, Glinda, Alam Cuervo (Madame Morrible), Mark Jacoby (The Wizard), Colin Hanlon (Fiyero) and many others.
