Wicked Jacksonville | Moran Theatre
Tony Award winning musical “Wicked” heads south right at the start of the new year for its first stop in 2012, in Jacksonville, FL. The Broadway hit show, which is currently on tour, will be holding a three week run at the Times Union Performing Arts Center from January 4 to 22, 2012.
Dubbed as “the Best Musical of the Decade” by Entertainment Weekly, “Wicked” boasts of amazing musical scores and tunes from critically acclaimed composer Stephen Schwartz, giving rise to one of the most famous show tunes today, “Defying Gravity”. Its story, beautifully penned and adapted by Winnie Holzman of “Clueless” fame, is based on Gregory Maguire’s novel, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, popularly considered as the prequel to the “Wizard of Oz”, which tackles the life of Elphaba, the young girl from Oz whose resilient and proactive nature shaped her into realizing her destiny as the Wicked Witch of the West.
