Federer Returns to the Part of Nessarose

Michelle Federer, the original Broadway Nessarose, returned to her role in the musical Wicked on August 18, 2009. She takes over for Christy Candler whose final performance was on August 16, 2009.

Federer was Julia Robert’s standby in “Three Days of Rain” on Broadway. Her credits on Off-Broadway include “A Man of No Importance” at the Lincoln Center and “Boys Life” at Second Stage Theatre.

The cast of Wicked includes Erin Mackey in the role of Glinda, Dee Roscioli plays Elphaba, Rondi Reed is Madame Morrible, P.J. Benjamin plays The Wizard, Kevern Kern is Fiyero, Timothy Britten Parker plays Doctor Dillamond, Michelle Federer plays Nessarose and Alex Brightman plays Boq. Wicked has been on Broadway for six years. The musical opened on October 20, 2003 at the Gershwin Theatre and is booked through May 23, 2010.

Well before Dorothy lands in Oz, two other young girls meet. One is beautiful, very popular and ambitious. The other is fiery, smart, very misunderstood and has emerald green skin. Wicked narrates the story of the two friends journey and how the unlikely pair grow up and eventually become Glinda the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch.

The Wicked lyrics and music are by Stephen Schwartz, the book, based on Gregory Maguire’s novel, is from Winnie Holman. Joe Mantello is the director, James Lynn Abbot the choreographer, Eugene Lee did the scene designs, costumes are from Susan Hilferty, sound is by Tony Meola and the lighting is by Kenneth Posner.
