Wicked San Francisco Gets New Elphaba

The Wicked Witch of the West is flying away on her broomstick. However, there’s a new one headed in for her landing in the Orpheum Theatre, the site where “Wicked,” the hit musical, has just celebrated a one year Best of Broadway anniversary.

Starting on March 2, Eden Espinosa will play Elphaba, the green witch, replacing Teal Wicks. Previously Espinosa has played the role of Elphaba on Broadway, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Espinosa’s other credits include her title role in “Flora the Red Menace,” a revival of a Liza Minnelli role in Los Angeles, playing Maureen in “Rent!” on Broadway as well as the lead role for the play “Brooklyn the Musical.”

In “Wicked,” Espinosa will be playing opposite Kendra Kassebaum who plays Glinda the Good Witch.

According to data from Best of Broadway, to date nearly 1 million people have seen San Francisco’s “Wicked” production. Recently the production in New York shattered its very own record and became Broadway history’s highest grossing show ever.
