A new “Wicked” production is scheduled to open in Denmark for the 2010-2011 season of theater.
The other “Wicked” productions that have so far opened have all been exact reproductions of Broadway’s original version, including lighting, sets, to even the costumes sequins. The production in Denmark, however, will be a one of its kind original. Denmark’s New Theater is the first theater in the world that has been granted permission for creating their very own adaptation.
“Wicked” producers have all stayed extremely involved in all of the current productions to ensure that they didn’t drift too far away from the original Broadway version. There have been only minimal changes, mostly caused by theater restrictions in the touring productions. However with a degree of freedom that is unprecedented, it’s going to be quite interesting seeing what Denmark will choose to keep as well as change while they are putting their version of “Wicked” together.
