Wicked Toasts Six Years on Broadway
On October 30, 2009, Wicked, the Broadway musical, celebrated its sixth anniversary. The show first opened on October 30, 2003 at Gershwin Theatre, after previews that started on October 8. Wicked is booked currently through August 29, 2010.
Well before Dorothy drops into Oz, there are two other girls who meet. One girl has emerald green skin and is fiery, smart and very misunderstood. The other girl is very popular, ambitious and beautiful. Wicked narrates the story of the remarkable journey of the two unlikely friends who grow up to be Glinda the Good Witch and Wicked Witch of the West.
Currently featured in Wicked are Dee Roscioli who plays Elphaba, Erin Mackey plays Glinda, P.J. Benjamin is the Wizard, Rondi Reed plays Madame Morrible, Kevern Kern plays Fiyero, Michelle Federe plays Nessarose, Timothy Britten Park plays Doctor Dillamond and Alex Brightman plays Boq.
Music and lyrics for Wicked are by Stephen Schwartz, the book was written by Winnie Holzman and is based on Gregory Maguire’s novel.
Joe Mantello is the director, James Lynn Abbott does the choreography, Eugene Lee does the scene design, Susan Hilferty does the costumes, Kenneth Posner does the lighting and Tony Meola does the sound.
