Wicked, one of the longest running and most successful Broadway musicals, has a week-long engagement at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts’ Academy of Music on July 26 to August 27, 2017.
Based Gregory Maguire’s 1995 book Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, the Broadway production presents a parallel story to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz from L. Frank Baum. The plot of Wicked starts years before Dorothy was carried by a tornado to the Land of Oz and introduces Elphaba, the green-skinned, passionate, and smart woman who became the Wicked Witch of the West. Exploring the individual stories of Elphaba and Galinda, who became the Good Witch of the North, Wicked explains the circumstances that surround the classic Wizard of Oz tale and illustrates that there are always two sides in every story.
