Jackie Burns and Chandra Lee Schwartz will finally have their chance to take a swing on the much coveted spots to be left by Teal Wicks and Katie Rose Clarke on the Broadway run of ‘Wicked’, playing the very same roles that they have extensively played for the touring company of the Tony Award winning musical.
The current Broadway cast of ‘Wicked’ includes Wicks and Clarke as Elphaba and Glinda, respectively, Richard H. Blake, Kathy Fitzgerald, Tom McGowan, Tom Flynn, Cristy Candle and Etai BenShlomo.
This won’t be Burns and Schwartz’s debut on the Great White Way. Burns has just wrapped up work on ‘Hair’, and has also appeared in the off-Broadway mountings of ‘Unlock’d’ and ‘Rock of Ages’. As for Schwartz, she has worked with Bernadette Peters for the Broadway revival of ‘Gypsy’, and has appeared in an array of Las Vegas productions which includes ‘High School Musical’ and ‘Hairspray’.
For those of you ‘Wicked’ fans who have loved and will miss Wicks and Clarke’s performances as the rival witches of Oz, don’t despair for you still have a few more days to watch them perform before they leave the stage for the incoming Burns and Schwartz, and there’s nothing like the drama of a side-by-side comparison to get our musical juices flowing and fuel the theatrical debate on who’s the better Elphaba and Glinda.
